· Total vehicle sales of 38,921 vehicles sets a new record for Mitsubishi Motors sales in Canada
· After record-setting 2023, sales up another 9% year over year
· Outlander PHEV remains Canada’s best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle
MISSISSAUGA, ON, January 7, 2025 – Led by a significant increase in sales of Canada’s best-selling PHEV, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada has closed out 2024 with another record-setting year.
Mitsubishi Motors sold 38,921 vehicles in Canada in 2024, marking a 9% increase over 2023. For the first time in its 22-year history in Canada, the brand sold more than 10,000 units of a single nameplate in one calendar year, with the flagship Outlander PHEV SUV selling 14,290 units in 2024 — a 44% year-over-year increase.
The Outlander PHEV was the first plug-in hybrid SUV in Canada when it was introduced in 2018. In 2024, for the second year in a row, it was the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in Canada regardless of category. It represented 36.7% of Mitsubishi Motors’ total sales and Canada is now the No. 1 market globally for Outlander PHEV sales.
For the quarter ending Dec. 31, Mitsubishi Motors saw total sales of 9,228 vehicles, an 8% increase over the same quarter last year. The top selling model was the Outlander PHEV with 4,003 units sold.
Beyond just vehicle sales, 2024 saw important steps taken for the brand in Canada, such as opening its 97th dealership and adding new staff and platforms to better support customers and dealers.
In May, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation also released its Mitsubishi Momentum 2030 plan, which sets the roadmap for future product in North America. In each of the next six years, Mitsubishi will release a brand new or refreshed vehicle, starting with the launch of the updated 2025 Outlander gas SUV, set to be unveiled in February. Mitsubishi Motors Momentum 2030 is defined by four key points:
- A path to electrification
- A path to a renewed and expanded product lineup to strengthen Mitsubishi Motors in Canada
- A path to a modernized retail sales model
- A path to a strengthened partnership with the dealer network and sales growth
