Top selling PHEV SUV in the world
Introduced over a decade ago, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has led the way in technology and become the world’s top selling plug-in hybrid EV – at the end of August 2022, sales exceeded 312,000 units globally. As the first PHEV SUV ever built the company has utilized its decade line experience and over 50 years in electric vehicle development to create a vehicle that both prioritizes fuel efficiency and driving dynamics.
Range anxiety vanquished
Longer range is provided by a new higher capacity drive battery as well as a larger fuel tank. The electric-only range has been extended to 61 km while the overall range has been increased to 687 km.
The battery is situated low in the chassis, fitted between the twin electric motors for optimum weight distribution. At 20 kWh, its storage capacity is 45 per cent larger than the previous version’s 13.8 kWh system. The new battery and twin electric motors are mated to a revised, specifically tuned, Atkinson cycle 2.4-litre combustion engine.
Upgraded Twin-motor S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control)
Twin electric motor AWD realizes the ideal longitudinal torque distribution control and provides safety/security/comfort in all conditions. An 114HP front motor (upgraded from 80HP for 2023), a 134HP rear motor (upgraded from 94HP) assures exceptional power, strong and smooth acceleration, smooth regenerative braking and augmented S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) handling confidence.
The twin electric motor system also enhances Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC)₁, Mitsubishi Motors’ all-wheel drive system. S-AWC benefits from the electric motors’ instant torque response, delivering power to the wheels that can best deploy it faster than is possible from a conventional tail shaft driven AWD system.
Loaded for the Family
The Outlander PHEV delivers 5+2 third row seating, accommodates those surprise extra soccer kids. That’s just a start: the remarkably affordable LE level also includes panoramic sunroof with sunshade; 3-zone automatic climate control; power folding side-view mirrors; power liftgate with adjustable height; 6-way power driver’s seat (sliding, reclining & height adjustable); power folding side-view mirrors and much more. Even a heated steering wheel!
Striking design and finishes
The Outlander PHEV’s distinctive exterior was crafted under the Japanese ‘I-Fu-Do-Do’ philosophy, translating as ‘Authentic and Majestic’. This ethos is reflected in the vehicle’s bold proportions, muscular fenders and the chiselled lines of the next-generation ‘Dynamic Shield’ grille. The use of strong horizontal design lines emphasize width and a powerful road presence.
The all-new Outlander PHEV features an upmarket interior that combines its luxurious features and materials with impressive family practicality. The Outlander’s interior design team focused on improved seat comfort, reduced NVH levels and high-quality materials usage at key touchpoints throughout the cabin.
Leading Warranty
The Outlander PHEV comes with a fully transferable 10-year/160,000-km powertrain including battery limited warranty as well as a fully transferable 5-year /100,000-km comprehensive warranty, and 5-year unlimited kilometre roadside assistance.
